{"id":5150,"date":"2022-04-04T12:19:41","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T19:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gusty-jar.staging.mysites.io\/?p=5150"},"modified":"2022-04-04T12:23:21","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T19:23:21","slug":"washington-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/olysol.org\/es\/washington-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Olympia Community Solar Wins a 3-Year-Long Legislative Effort for House Bill 1814"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Led by <a href=\"https:\/\/housedemocrats.wa.gov\/shewmake\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Representative Sharon Shewmake<\/a>, lawmakers in Olympia have approved new funding for Washington\u2019s expired solar energy incentive program.\u00a0 Governor Inslee signed <a href=\"\/es\/bills\/house-bill-1814\/\">House Bill 1814<\/a> on March 30th which creates a new incentive program beginning in 2023.<\/p>\n<h3>The program will provide funding for low-income households and low-income service providers\u2019 installing solar.<\/h3>\n<p>Washington State University Energy Extension will manage the $100 million in funding, providing grants to community solar projects around the state.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEveryone needs to be a part of the green energy future,\u201d said Shewmake. \u201cIn the past, solar energy incentive programs have primarily benefited people who can dole out cash for the panels and installation. We can do more to include everyone in the transition to a green economy and together, with this bill, we will.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The new program is in part the result of a three year effort by <a href=\"https:\/\/olysol.org\/es\/\">Olympia Community Solar<\/a>, a small non-profit, to pass policy that recognizes the growing need for equity in the energy economy. The president of the organization, Mason Rolph, commented \u201cThe benefits of solar energy should be accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live or their income.
