Grace Episcopal Church

The Church:

Grace Episcopal Church serves the community of Bainbridge Island, Washington. Their ministry centers the values of inclusion, service, discovery, and gratitude. Grace Episcopal Church is proud to demonstrate how churches can practice environmental sustainability, and they hope this project will inspire other churches and organizations to consider installing solar as well.

This solar installation includes 73 solar panels across the building’s roof. The 32kW system was designed and installed by Cascadia Solar. The project reduces the church’s energy bill and contributes to sustainable infrastructure on Bainbridge Island.

“Grace Episcopal Church is honored to join the solar energy community in Kitsap County. Caring for our earth has never been more important!”

–The Reverend Eric Mason, Grace Episcopal Church.

The solar project will reduce the church’s annual energy burden by an average of $10,470 per year over the 30 year lifespan, dollars which can instead support the church’s mission and ministry on Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County. Over its 30 year lifetime, the installation is projected to produce 846 MWhs of clean, renewable electricity. According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s greenhouse gas equivalencies, it will offset 28,891 pounds of CO2 emissions annually. That is equivalent to the amount of carbon captured by 13 acres of U.S. forest land every year, or 3 homes’ electricity use for one year.

Special thanks to Marcy Lagerloef, Cascadia Solar, Olympia Community Solar, the City of Bainbridge Island, and the WA Department of Commerce.

On October 15, 2026, Grace Episcopal Church held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the solar project.

The ceremony also honored the 68 households that signed contracts for home solar installations as a result of the Solarize Bainbridge initiative that was sponsored by the City of Bainbridge Island the same year with the assistance of Olympia Community Solar.

The project is funded from a grant from the WA Department of Commerce Clean Energy Community Grants program, which is supported with funding from Washington’s Climate Commitment Act. The CCA supports Washington’s climate action efforts by putting cap-and-invest dollars to work reducing climate pollution, creating jobs, and improving public health. Information about the CCA is available at www.climate.wa.gov.
